Back End / System Engineer
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Backend Systems Engineer to join their team. This role will focus on developing and supporting internal tools, including Atlas, Firewall Automation, and a new AI-powered BRI Agent. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Python backend development, experience with AI and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technologies, and exposure to modern cloud and infrastructure platforms. This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative solutions that improve operational efficiency and drive AI adoption across the organization.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and internal tools using Python and modern web frameworks
- Build and support REST APIs, GraphQL services, and asynchronous application components
- Develop and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, including document ingestion, retrieval workflows, and prompt engineering
- Implement and manage vector database solutions to support AI-powered applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, test, deploy, and enhance internal software solutions
- Create automated tests and participate in code reviews to ensure software quality and reliability
- Support cloud-based deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized application environments
- Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to system reliability and observability
Required Skills/Experience (Must-Haves)
- 1+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong Python development experience, including Python 3.10+, type hints, async/await, dataclasses, and protocols
- Experience with backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django
- Knowledge of REST API and GraphQL development
- Experience building and implementing RAG pipelines and retrieval strategies
- Hands-on experience with vector database technologies
- Familiarity with AI frameworks and tools such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, or AWS Bedrock
- Experience with testing frameworks including pytest, unittest, and integration testing methodologies
- Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis
Preferred Skills
- Experience with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus, Qdrant, ChromaDB, or pgvector
- Knowledge of indexing and retrieval techniques, including HNSW, IVF, and product quantization
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration technologies
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and deployment automation
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Knowledge of message queue technologies, including Kafka, RabbitMQ, Celery, or Redis
- Exposure to LLM observability and monitoring tools such as LangSmith, OpenTelemetry, or Weights & Biases
- Understanding of prompt engineering, function calling, guardrails, and AI output validation techniques

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $75,000 and $85,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location. We comply with local wage minimums.
