IT Vendor Manager
Job Summary
Our client, a leading energy and utilities provider, is seeking an IT Vendor Manager to drive strategic partnerships with technology suppliers and maximize the value of the organization's technology investments. Serving as a key link between IT leadership, business stakeholders, and vendors, this role focuses on vendor governance, technology sourcing, cost optimization, and supplier performance across hardware, software, cloud, SaaS, and technology services. The ideal candidate brings experience managing enterprise vendor relationships and aligning technology investments with business goals.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of strategic technology vendors across hardware, software, cloud, SaaS, and platform services
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned vendors and supplier leadership teams
- Develop and maintain vendor governance processes, performance reviews, and ongoing supplier engagement strategies
- Monitor vendor performance against contractual obligations, service level agreements (SLAs), and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Conduct recurring business reviews with vendors and internal stakeholders
- Partner with sourcing teams to support contract negotiations, renewals, pricing discussions, and commercial terms
- Analyze technology spend, vendor utilization, and supplier performance to identify optimization opportunities
- Support vendor selection, onboarding, and ongoing management activities
- Coordinate with IT, architecture, finance, legal, and procurement teams to ensure vendor strategies align with enterprise objectives
- Evaluate vendor roadmaps and communicate opportunities, risks, and recommendations to leadership
- Develop executive-level reporting and PowerPoint presentations on vendor performance, spend management, and strategic initiatives
- Perform Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses and provide recommendations to improve cost efficiency
- Identify risks associated with vendor performance, licensing, compliance, and contractual obligations
- Drive supplier accountability and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and technology investment planning activities
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in IT Vendor Management, Technology Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Management, or Vendor Governance
- Experience managing enterprise technology suppliers and complex vendor portfolios
- Strong knowledge of technology contracts, software licensing models, cloud agreements, and vendor governance practices
- Experience managing vendor performance through KPIs, SLAs, scorecards, and business reviews
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, spend analysis, and cost optimization
- Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint skills with experience creating executive-level presentations and strategic recommendations
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working within large enterprise environments
- Ability to influence stakeholders and vendors at all organizational levels
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience balancing multiple vendor relationships and business priorities simultaneously
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience managing strategic relationships with major technology suppliers such as Microsoft, Dell, Cisco, Oracle, SAP, VMware, AWS, or similar enterprise technology vendors
- Experience supporting enterprise IT organizations and technology procurement initiatives
- Experience with vendor management and procurement platforms such as SAP Ariba, Coupa, ServiceNow, or GEP
- Experience with software licensing, cloud consumption models, and technology contract management
- Familiarity with capital and operational expense planning processes
- Experience preparing executive briefings and strategic vendor reviews
- Knowledge of technology market trends and supplier management best practices
- Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft collaboration tools

Work Environment
- Location: Oakland, CA
- Model: Hybrid
- Minimum 2-3 onsite days per week; Wednesdays required onsite
- Local Bay Area and Sacramento candidates preferred
- Occasional travel to San Ramon, CA for workshops and stakeholder meetings
- Laptop provided by client
- Consultant must maintain an appropriate home office setup
- Multi-round interview process including a PowerPoint presentation
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $56.00 and $81.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location. We comply with local wage minimums.
