Job Summary
Our client a leading Energy & Utilities provider is seeking a CAD/Mechanical Designer/Drafter to join their team! This position is located in San Diego, California.
Seeking an experienced CAD/Mechanical Designer/Drafter IV to support gas utility infrastructure projects involving both new construction and retrofit work. This role will focus heavily on developing detailed 2D and 3D engineering drawings using AutoCAD Plant 3D and Civil 3D technologies.
The team is looking for a highly technical drafter/designer who can interpret field survey information, apply utility design standards, and produce permit-ready and construction-ready drawing packages. Experience with Plant 3D isometrics and building block creation is highly preferred.

Core Responsibilities
- Create and update detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for gas utility facilities
- Develop construction, permitting, and closeout drawing packages
- Translate field measurements and survey data into accurate engineering designs
- Produce isometric drawings within AutoCAD Plant 3D
- Create and manage Plant 3D building blocks/components
- Support projects involving new builds, retrofits, and modifications to existing infrastructure
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and utility standards
- Prepare supporting documentation related to design drawings and permitting requirements
- Collaborate with field personnel, engineering teams, and permitting agencies
- 8+ years of CAD/Mechanical drafting and design experience
- Strong experience with: AutoCAD Plant 3D; Civil 3D; 2D and 3D drafting/modeling; Isometric drawing creation
- Experience creating Plant 3D blocks/components
- Ability to interpret survey information and translate it into technical designs
- Strong understanding of drafting techniques, engineering concepts, and blueprint reading
- Experience preparing permit and construction drawing packages
- Valid driver’s license / ability to drive as needed for the role
- Utility industry experience, particularly gas utility projects
- Familiarity with gas utility drafting/design standards
- Surveying knowledge and field-to-design translation experience
- Prior experience supporting infrastructure or pipeline-related projects
- Plant 3D isometric experience
- Building block creation within Plant 3D
- Surveying experience
- Utility standards exposure
- Strong technical drafting/design backgrounds in infrastructure environments
- Location: San Diego, California
- Onsite
- Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $60.00 and $70.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location. We comply with local wage minimums.
