I-O Psychologist

N/A
Chicago, Illinois, 60606
Contract
Ref.: 142289
Job Summary
Our client, a major U.S. travel provider, is looking for an I-O Psychologist to support their Talent Strategy team on a part-time, 6-month contract (~20 hours/week), hybrid in Chicago, IL (fully remote considered for very strong candidates). This is a new position tied to the client's 2026 assessment roadmap. The team is responsible for designing and validating the pre-hire assessments used across the business, ensuring they're fair, legally defensible, and predictive of job performance. The role involves conducting job analyses, designing and validating pre-employment tools, analyzing assessment data for fairness and business impact, and translating technical findings into recommendations for non-technical business leaders. The right candidate has real applied experience building and validating assessments, not just administering vendor tools, along with strong psychometrics knowledge and current knowledge of legal/EEOC guidelines. Strong stakeholder management skills are important given the volume of cross-functional collaboration involved. Local candidates preferred for hybrid but not required.

Core Responsibilities
  • Conduct job analyses to ensure assessments are role-relevant, valid, and legally defensible
  • Design and validate pre-employment tools in line with professional and legal standards
  • Analyze assessment data for fairness, validity, and business impact
  • Collaborate with HR, Talent Acquisition, business leaders, SMEs, and external vendors to implement and monitor assessments
  • Translate technical results into clear, actionable recommendations for business leaders
  • Support documentation and compliance efforts to meet legal and regulatory standards
  • Provide project and stakeholder management throughout the assessment lifecycle
  • Contribute to training initiatives on effective interviewing and assessment use
  • Manage multiple high-priority assessment initiatives simultaneously
Required Skills/Experience (Must-Haves)
  • Master's or PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology or related field
  • 5+ years of applied experience in pre-hire assessment design and validation
  • Strong knowledge of psychometric principles, legal guidelines, and personnel selection best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements and professional guidelines in assessment and selection
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and convey results to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves)
  • Vendor oversight and coordination experience
  • Aviation industry experience
  • Experience training others on interviewing and assessment use
  • Ability to drive innovation based on emerging research in I-O psychology
Key Competencies and Behaviors
  • Comfortable working as an individual contributor, doing the technical work directly rather than overseeing it
  • Strong consulting approach, able to influence without direct authority
  • Able to balance multiple concurrent assessment projects
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on legal compliance and data integrity
  • Comfortable with ambiguity given this is a new, developing initiative
  • Reliable and flexible given part-time hours with potential to flex up
Work Environment
  • Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid preferred), remote US considered for strong candidates
